This Week In Doctor Who - November 21/23, 2001

Welcome to the weekly guide to known Doctor Who broadcasts around the world. Members of the mailing list and readers on rec.arts.drwho might notice that today is Wednesday, not Friday. Well, this is Thanksgiving weekend in the United States, so much of the readership may be away from their computers and unable to read the column at its usual publication time. Also, the Chicago TARDIS convention in Chicago, IL is likely to keep some Doctor Who fans offline on Friday. So, we're a little early this week with This Week.

For those of us who will be around on Friday, November 23 (the 38th anniversary of the series), I will reprint the July 14, 2000 edition of This Week In Doctor Who. It was the 2nd anniversary edition. It is memorable because 25 other people helped co-write this edition. Who said too many cooks spoil the broth? This reprint will only be on the thisweekindoctorwho yahoo group at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/thisweekindoctorwho/ . Subscribers will get it in their e-mail like usual, and non-subscribers will be able to read it on the web page. But as a repeat, it won't go out on other lists and rec.arts.drwho.

Additions and corrections are welcome at bfelliott@... , bfelliott@... , bfelliott3 on AOL IM, or thebfe on Yahoo! Messenger. And now, the listings:

An alien distress call brings the TARDIS to Earth in 1985, where an old foe who the Doctor barely met before (Commander Lytton) appears to have teamed up with the Cybermen. The Cybermen want to alter history and destroy the Earth. Something doesn't add up in the equation, and Lytton holds the key to understand what on the Milky Way is going on.
Sun 9:10-11AM GMT Vengeance on Varos movie
The TARDIS runs out of Zeiton-7, a critical mineral that enables it to operate. In search of a replacement supply, the 6th Doctor and Peri stumble across the planet Varos, where the citizens live in constant fear and torture is common, and the leadership lives in constant fear of the citizens. Lots of special effects in this gruesome but gripping installment of the series.
